Inside the University of Cincinnati's 1819 Innovation Hub is the drawing board for a startup aimed to make the world a cleaner place. You'll find a unique tool that's designed to clean up our water.
"What's unique is that we're doing this from Cincinnati, which, on its own surface, you don't think is the most logical place for a boat company," said Chris Petersen, co-founder of Clean Earth Rovers.
This isn't just any boat we're talking about.
The pontoon, which is about the size of a pool float, picks up plastic and marine pollution.
Michael Arens is the CEO of Clean Earth Rovers. He and his team brought this vision to life.
"I didn't think that what was being done was good enough. So I set out to create Clean Earth Rovers," Arens said.
About three years later, the Plastics Piranha is setting sail.
"The intent is to really provide the marina owners an alternative to every time you need to do something, you have to send out a human. Go to your phone. Log on to the app. Identify in your marina where it is. It has a lidar unit on it so it won't crash into things. It's got an eight-hour battery," Robert Charvat with Clean Earth Rovers said.
Keeping marinas clean becomes more efficient. However, their technology doesn't stop at the surface. Their data sensor that looks like a buoy collects information on water quality.
"It will tell you oxygen levels, it will tell you pollution content, water temperature. All those critical things in which if you manage a marina, you want to keep people happy but also you want to make sure the water is safe to be in," Charvat said.
"It also includes all of the pollutants that you can't see. Whether that's bacteria levels in the water or phosphates or nitrogen. Things that cause algae blooms and fish die-offs, which are becoming a much bigger problem for different municipalities and marinas around the country," Petersen said.
바카라게임 is told they're working with marinas big and small, fresh waterways, as well as east and west coast harbors.
The first plastics piranha is scheduled to launch this summer at Point San Pablo Harbor near San Francisco.
