City, community leaders reach out to teens selling water after altercation with police
The community is now looking for ways to help some teenagers who have been selling water at busy intersections around Cincinnati.
At least one city council member and community leaders came together at Woodward High School to meet with the teens.
바카라 게임 웹사이트Right now, you have a community-driven response, to say, 바카라 게임 웹사이트how do we legitimize what they바카라 게임 웹사이트re doing, make it a legal hustle to sell water and also to redirect them in another path that can be just as lucrative,'" New Prospect Baptist Church pastor Damon Lynch said.
Cincinnati City Councilwoman Meeka Owens attended the meeting with the teens.
Owens said she wants the situation to lead to a positive outcome.
"What I walked away with is really hope," Owens said. "At the end of the day, we want to make sure that young people have opportunity, they have access, they want to earn money, and that we're keeping them safe and keeping them off the street doing negative things."
The meeting comes after police and some teens got into an altercation last week.
Police were called to a busy intersection because there were safety concerns for the kids selling water.
Police who asked the teens to move out of the intersection didn바카라 게임 웹사이트t get the cooperation they wanted and two of the teens were arrested.
The incident was captured on a police body cam.
Some were upset the police didn바카라 게임 웹사이트t de-escalate the situation. Others felt the teens were at fault for not complying with the officer's request.
According to Hamilton County Juvenile Court, the two teens arrested were taken to the Youth Center but picked up by a parent and did not have to spend the night at the juvenile detention center.
A representative for the court told 바카라게임 since the two juveniles are first time offenders and charged with low level, non-violent misdemeanors, their cases will be heard unofficially.
This means the teens will likely work with a social worker instead of a judge and will have no criminal record, regardless of the outcome.
The Cincinnati city manager released a statement about the incident on Wednesday.
