COVID-19 booster now available for 5-11 year old children
An important week in the battle against COVID-19.
The feds have now given the green light for booster shots for kids ages 5 to 11.
It could be an uphill challenge for health officials.
The roll-out began today. Some private clinics are reporting that kids can get the booster now but public health providers in Ohio remain on hold.
Nationally only 28 percent of children 5-to-11 have received their full series of vaccine, and are eligible for the booster. In Hamilton County, that number is 32 percent.
Health leaders know they still have a long way to go.
"We wait for those standing orders. They could come thru any minute right now or take another day or two. As soon as the orders come thru we are welcoming the 5- to 11-year-olds to our clinics," Jo Talty, Hamilton County nurse said.
