Trump taps Cincinnati native Ramaswamy, Musk to lead Department of Government Efficiency
President-elect Donald Trump continued to announce who will be part of his next administration on Tuesday, tabbing a Cincinnati native to lead a new agency.
On Tuesday, Trump announced that Cincinnati native Vivek Ramaswamy, alongside billionaire Elon Musk, will lead the "Department of Government Efficiency."
In a statement on Tuesday, Trump said the DOGE will "will partner with the White House and Office of Management & Budget to drive large scale structural reform, and create an entrepreneurial approach to Government never seen before."
Trump said Musk and Ramaswamy's work will conclude no later than July 4, 2026.
After the announcement, Ramaswamy posted to X, the social media platform owned by Musk, to say that he is withdrawing himself from consideration to fill Vice President-elect JD Vance's Senate seat in Ohio.

A St. Xavier High School alum who ran in the Republican primary for the 2024 election, Ramaswamy spoke highly of Trump during a speech at the Republican National Convention in July.
Ramaswamy has never held public office but did join the Republican presidential primary field last year, dropping out after the Iowa caucuses.
Born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, Ramaswamy, the son of Indian immigrants, founded a biotechnology company before becoming the partner of a hedge fund.
