Fauci: Pfizer vaccine's emergency use authorization, high-priority doses could be given this year
Dr. Anthony Fauci says Pfizer's vaccine could soon be distributed to those most in need.
He detailed the potential timeline Tuesday, saying the COVID-19 vaccine could have doses available in December for high-priority recipients.
Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, that he didn't want to get ahead of the Food and Drug Administration's potential approval of the vaccine.
But he said based on the impressive initial data, an emergency use authorization could happen soon for Pfizer's vaccine. The company announced Monday that early results from the vaccine suggests the shots may be a surprisingly robust 90% effective at preventing COVID-19.
The experimental coronavirus vaccine is being developed by Pfizer and BioNTech.
