Highway rescue: 'You don't see a deer in a Subaru every day'
Police are accustomed to responding to various situations involving humans, animals and sometimes a mix of both.
But what police in Massachusetts saw Thursday night might surprise even a longtime department veteran.
According to Braintree police, while their Animal Control Officer was dropping off an injured raccoon at the animal wildlife center in Weymouth, he was flagged down by a motorist who had a deer in his vehicle.
Police said the deer had been struck on the highway, and the concerned driver brought it to the wildlife center for medical attention.
Braintree police said the Environmental Police were contacted, but before they arrived, the deer was checked out and ran off into the woods.
Animal control officials said they appreciated the intentions of the driver wanting to save the deer but warned about the dangers of transporting wild animals in vehicles.
