The San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office in California identified the victim in a cold case murder from 1995 in a press conference on Thursday. Over 27 years ago, a woman's dead body was found inside a refrigerator that was tied shut and lying in a canal. Her hands were bound together with tape and a sock was stuffed inside of her mouth. Authorities determined that blunt force trauma killed the victim but for years had still not been able to identify her. The sheriff's office said that the case has been known as the "lady in the fridge."San Joaquin County Sheriff Patrick Withrow said on Thursday that they have determined that Amanda Lynn Schumann Deza is the name of the woman who was killed.The sheriff's office is still looking for a suspect in the case and Withrow asked the public for help in finding them. Sgt. Linda Jimenez with the sheriff's office said that it partnered with the San Joaquin County Medical Examiner's Office and Othram to gather and use forensic evidence. The sheriff's office said that they contacted Deza's family regarding the investigation and used DNA samples provided by her daughter and mother to confirm that she was the woman in the refrigerator. The San Joaquin County sheriff's office is asking those that may have known Amanda or have any relevant information to the case to email coldcase@sjgov.org or call 209-468-5087.
