Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown voting to convict President Trump
Ohio Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown announced Wednesday he will vote to convict and remove President Donald Trump following impeachment proceedings.
The Senate is scheduled to vote at 4 p.m.
On the first article of impeachment, Trump is charged with abuse of power. On the second, obstruction of Congress.
The outcome expected caps nearly five months of impeachment proceedings launched in Speaker Nancy Pelosi's House, ending in Mitch McConnell's Senate and reflective of the nation's unrelenting partisan divide three years into the Trump presidency.
"His impeachment trial demonstrated that the president abused his power by extorting a political favor from a foreign government in order to bolster his own political campaign, and then obstructed Congress as he blocked witnesses from his Administration from testifying in front of the American people," Brown said in a statement.
In a release, Brown said he vowed to be an impartial juror from the beginning of this trial, pushing for witnesses and documents to be included, so the American public could hear all of the evidence and Senators could weigh the facts of the case.
Brown said he will speak on the Senate floor Wednesday and provide his reasoning for this decision.
