Community searching for cat named Oreo reportedly stolen from Grant County HS
Grant County High School students are heartbroken after a beloved cat was allegedly stolen.
According to the district, a car pulled onto the property last Friday and took off with a cat named Oreo.
The friendly feline has called the high school home for seven years.
He was a quintessential part of the school day, especially in the Special Education Department.
The cat was known to start many students' days off with a smile. Every morning, Oreo was on patrol and made it his duty to greet special education students when they got off the bus, and he saw them off at the end of the day.
Since the cat went missing, his loss has been the talk of the town.
Director Kathleen Ritzi said Oreo has not shown up at the Grant County Animal Shelter.
"We hope he's okay and whoever has him sees the story and all of the Facebook pleas and will bring the cat back to these children," Ritzi said.
Ritzi is aware of the four-legged animal's impact on the students.
"He was an emotional support kitty for them," Ritzi said. "I think he brings comfort when they feel anxious or scared. He's just a sense of calm when he comes into the room."
She explained that the outdoor cat lived in the courtyard and would stay inside during the winter.
"He gets up on the kids and puts his feet on their legs when they're sitting at their desk," Ritzi said. "He gets on their desk, and he just brings a sense of joy to them when they're at school."
The district hopes the cat is okay and brought back to his home safe and sound.
