On his ninth birthday, Thomas Daniel missed the school bus and started to cry, according to Thomas had been thinking about his birthday party and the friends he'd invited that he hoped would join him to celebrate.
"I was sad I missed the bus, I just wanted to go to school," the young boy told the outlet.
Officer Austin Lynema, who Thomas now refers to as "a hero," offered to help him. "He informed me he never missed a day of school," Lynema said. "I wanted to make sure I could help him as much as I could."
Lynema was walking Thomas home when the young boy brought up that it was his birthday. Thomas proceeded to invite all of the Grand Rapids Police Department officers to his birthday party, afraid that no one from school would show up, and revealed that he was bullied at school.
The officer was given permission to drop Thomas off at school, and he made sure to make a grand entrance for the birthday boy 바카라 게임 웹사이트 lights, sirens and all.
Unfortunately, Thomas' fears were confirmed. Just his family and GRPD officers attended his birthday party that evening.
Thomas told M Live, "When Austin came over, no one was at my birthday party because everybody had to go somewhere ... to their friends' houses to play. I just love Austin because he's the coolest guy I've ever met in my life."
As it turned out, Lynema really is a cool guy. The next day, he and his team surprised Thomas when he got off the bus with another party. It included all the makings of a memorable 9-year-old's birthday party: a Krispy Kreme doughnut cake, gifts and a singing quartet. Thomas called it "the best birthday ever!"
Grand Rapids Police Departments posted on its to share the heartwarming story. "No kid should get bullied, and no kid should worry if anyone will come to the party. Next year Thomas Daniel, make sure you drop us that invite a little sooner. We wouldn't want to miss it!"
Thomas told M Live, "People at school are happy for me because Austin... he never lets kids down, he's a hero. I'll never forget this until the day I die."
