Hi. Yeah. These contact tracing APS tell you if you've been exposed to someone with Kobe 19. I'm seeing a lot of confusion about this online. Is it automatically tracking my every move? How do I turn it on? How do I turn it off? Don't worry. We're about to show you everything you need to know. It is an unprecedented joint venture between Apple and Google. The technology will be installed on all iPhone and Android devices in new software updates. Here's the good news. It's not automatically tracking you. It actually comes in the default off position. But you still want to check for yourself? I don't blame you. Come on in. Let me show you how to do it. This is my iPhone. You go to settings right there, right there. Scroll down to privacy. Right. Their privacy. OK, then you come over here to help. Okay? And there it is, at the top cove. It 19 exposure. Logging its off. In fact, I can't even toggle it on right now because the way this currently needs to work in its current generation, it needs to be talking to a government health app. There isn't one yet so it's not quite working yet, but it's gonna be coming online soon. Let me explain how this works. What? It does go online, Okay? It uses Bluetooth technology. So there are Bluetooth signals coming out of here. Right when it's gonna be talking to all these other phones of people all around me. Right now, I'm in the hallway here at work. This is my producer, Sarah. Sarah. Okay, so let's say Sarah also had the app on. And let's just say she had Cove in 19. She doesn't to be clear, she does not have it, but if she did, the government would give her instructions about how to put it on to her app. Then if my phone comes in Bluetooth range with her phone for five minutes or more, five minutes or more, it's gonna mark right here on my phone that I have been exposed to Corona virus. OK, now it's not gonna tell me Sarah's name. They're using random. I d identify IRS and just tell me I've been exposed. Let's just say I don't know, Sarah. I will never know who it waas or anything like that. Now here's the thing. Whenever there's tracking involved. We all worry about privacy, of course. So I asked our cyber security expert, Jim Stickley, about this. They say that they're not tracking your personal information, but the reality is it's tied back to your phone, and ultimately your phone is tied back to you, so it's still kind of questionable, and then you start looking at it going well, what could they do and who can get this information? So let's say that I've become sick and now that's stored somewhere. And then, let's see a criminal hacks into that database, which hacking happens all the time. So now suddenly they have access to this information and they can tie it back to a phone. It shouldn't take much of them to No, no, it was me. And then they could try to use that against me in some way. Maybe threatened to make it public things I wouldn't want people to know about. In fact, there are already privacy problems. One company developed the tracing app called CARE 19 for use in North and South Dakota. You can see on this map how many people downloaded it. The APP was reportedly violating its own privacy policy, sending personal location and advertisement data to 1/3 party. The company says it's tightening security protocols but didn't respond to our request for comment. Ultimately, it's gonna come down to a personal choice. If you're comfortable with the knowledge that somebody may know who you've been in contact with or if you've been sick, click the. But if you're a little more paranoid and a little more scared about people knowing everything about you, don't Apple and Google say right now they're working with public health agencies and APP developers to get this going. We just spoke with Google, asking when this will be up and running nationwide. No clear date yet, but we'll keep you posted on that. Apple and Google say the apse will only use Bluetooth technology like we showed you, and that no GPS or location data will be collected if you want to check to see if the setting is off on your phone to be sure of it.
