A break in a murder case from more than two years ago. This week, the Hamilton County Prosecutor's Office announced a man is facing charges for the death of a 20-year-old gunned down in Lockland.
Evvie Smith has been fighting for justice since her son, Treshawn Smith, was murdered. Treshawn was shot and killed at the intersection of West Wyoming Avenue and Elm Street in Lockland in October of 2022.
This week, 24-year-old Ronell Scott was charged in connection with Treshawn's murder. He's charged with purposeful murder, felony murder, felonious assault and aggravated murder.
"I'm very happy they finally put a name, a person, with the crime that was committed against my son," Evvie Smith said.
Investigators said Smith was a musician and the shooting was connected to a rap video he made that involved a feud between two groups. A warrant is out for Scott's arrest.
"I want the person who is responsible for my son's death to not go unpunished," Evvie Smith said. "They took a big brother, they took a son, they took a grandson."
"These killings are senseless," Hamilton County Prosecutor Connie Pillich said. "Nothing, especially a perceived slight in a rap video, is worth killing over. Through good investigatory work authorities identified Scott as the shooter. We never give up working to seek justice for victims."
If convicted, Scott could face up to life in prison.
