The U.S., Ukraine, Russia, and Europe are all talking peace but appear to be on different pages about where things stand.

President Donald Trump is once again siding with Russia and blaming Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for the ongoing war."I think we have a deal with Russia," Trump said in Oval Office remarks Wednesday. "We have to get a deal with Zelenskyy. I thought it might be easier to deal with Zelenskyy. So far, it's been harder."The president criticized Zelenskyy for ruling out giving up parts of Ukraine to Russia. In a meeting with European allies, the U.S. proposed that Russia keep the areas it occupies now, which is about a fifth of Ukraine. The American delegation characterized it as a final offer, while Europeans described it as "just ideas."Meanwhile, Vice President JD Vance said it was time for both sides to make concessions or the U.S. would be walking away. Secretary of State Marco Rubio echoed that idea while Trump blamed Zelenskyy for prolonging the "killing field.""We spend a lot of money, but this is about a lot of humanity," Trump said. "This is the worst. I get the satellite pictures. I've never seen anything like it, of the fields after some of these battles. It's horrible and it's for nothing."There will be more opportunities for Trump to get involved with peace talks between Russia and Ukraine. On Friday, he will travel to Rome for Pope Francis' funeral. European leaders, including Zelenskyy, are expected to be there as well. Trump said he already has "a lot of meetings set up" with other world leaders while there.Next month, Trump will also travel to the Middle East. He says it is possible he will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin then, but will more likely meet him soon after the trip.Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff, who has played a key role in the Russia-Ukraine negotiations, is headed to Moscow this week. The U.K. also hosted talks on Wednesday, but those were considered a failure after Secretary of State Rubio canceled plans to attend. Lower-ranking officials from the U.S. went instead and met with Ukrainian and British leaders.
