USPS, UPS and FedEx prepare for another pandemic crush of holiday gifts

USPS, UPS and FedEx prepare for another pandemic crush of holiday gifts
get rested Between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day, which is what we term our holiday season. Uh, we're expecting 25 billion, uh, letters, cards and packages to go through our system. We've been preparing for this holiday since the last holiday season ended. So we've got everything in place. We do this every day. We have the trucks, we have the personnel, we have the rolling stock and equipment to move the mail. And uh, we're gonna, we shouldn't be impacted by the supply chain. We'll get everything delivered. Last year was a wake up call for us. It, uh, possible volumes were far beyond what anybody expected last year. And we weren't prepared for that this year. We know what to expect. We we know that it's gonna be another record season for packages and we have all of the infrastructure in place and we're putting everything in place to make sure we can do that successfully. Not just for the holidays, but going forward. Yeah. Some of the things you'll see this year that we didn't have in the past, we've added 40 new annexes at key locations. All together. It's about 7.5 million square feet of space that we've added across the country. We've got 100 and 12 new apostles, sorting machines that are either installed are going to be, I believe there's 100 and two of them in place as of this morning. Uh, but new ones going in every week. Uh, and we're hiring, we're looking to put on another 40,000 people just for the holidays and many of them again will stay with us long term after the holidays. Also last year, we had kind of a perfect storm where we had not only Covid, which created, uh, increased online ordering and it also created employee impacts with the employee availability. Um, we had competitors who have the luxury of saying, no, we're not gonna take any more meal and send it through the post office instead. We don't do that. We're here for you whatever you give us, we're gonna, we're gonna deliver and we're going to get it home.
